LOGAN — A 21-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to jail for multiple drug and alcohol convictions. Elijah C. Spatz was ordered to serve a term not to exceed one year.
Spatz was sentenced in 1st District Court Monday morning. He previously pleaded guilty to one count of permitting a child to be exposed to a controlled substance, a third-degree felony; and six misdemeanors for possession or use of a controlled substance and driving under the influence.
Cache County Chief Deputy Attorney Spencer Walsh said Spatz’s addiction was disturbing. He told the court how in April, police found the defendant passed out inside a parked car. Spatz’s child was also inside the vehicle, wearing only a diaper. The vehicle had been outside a Logan bar for more than 4 hours.
Spatz spoke only briefly and made no excuse for his actions. He told the court he wanted to be a better father.
Judge Thomas Willmore said Spatz has a lengthy criminal history. He noted that the defendant has 10 convictions for drugs and alcohol.
