There are still many questions surrounding Senate Bill 54 and Utah Republican Party Chairman James Evans continues to find problems with it. One issue, he claims, is that GOP state and county leaders are desperately trying to hold on to their power, via delegates, over their elected officials.
The issue was discussed on KVNU’s For the People program Thursday and a local legislator, Rep. Jack Draxler (R-District 3), called in. Draxler said he would not be surprised to see the governor call for a special session to settle this and other issues.
“I think besides that issue, we have some issue with the way the dates roll out for signature collecting, declaring candidacy, party conventions, primaries and so on,” Draxler said. “There has to be a little bit of adjusting going on there. And we knew there would be because this is all new.”
He said if the issue can’t be resolved it my just end up going to court again.
