Hatch believes he is getting Tea Party support

A recent poll shows Utah Senator Orrin Hatch is tied with Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz, who has said he might be interested in challenging Sen. Hatch who is seeking a seventh six-year term in 2012. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday, and again at the Cache County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner Friday, Hatch said he is confident that he can win. It appears one of Hatch’s largest obstacles to re-election is getting support from the Tea Party movement. “I’ve had a number of Tea Party people tell me they’re with me,” Hatch said. “They’re coming on to the campaign. There are some of them that can’t even talk to me. “The vast majority of them are very good citizens throughout the country, including our home state of Utah. They are people that are outraged by the state of affairs in our nation today. They see skyrocketing debt, out-of-control spending, massive government expansions into all of our lives.” Hatch says he expects Republicans to take back the Senate in 2012 and that would mean he would be the chairman of the powerful finance committee. Right now, Hatch is the ranking Republican on that committee.
