Cruise-In trying to appeal to more motorcyclists

The Thursday (July 1) all day registration (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) begins the 2010 edition of the Cache Valley Cruise-In (July 1-3) in Logan. The Cache Valley Cruising Association hosts the event, which started in 1982. Greg and Cindy Yashko are Cruise-In directors. “The last time I checked we had over 350 pre-registered and that’s probably about 40 percent of what will be our final number,” said Greg. “We expect about 800 to be involved this year.” Some years over 1000 vehicles have entered including street rods, street machines, customs, restored vehicles, motorcycles, and trucks. “We have whatever you want,” said Yashko. “I’ve always said if you’re into cars of any kind, and you can’t find something down at the fairgrounds that you like, I’d be shocked. The range is enormous; you’ll see pretty much any kind of specialty vehicle at the fairgrounds. “We’re trying to promote motorcycles, as well. We’ve been working in conjunction with Saddleback Harley and we’re anxious to see what kind of involvement we’ll have. Of course, motorcycles tend to be very dependent on the weather of the day.” He said this year’s Cruise-In giveaway car is a classic muscle car. “We have a 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible, a beautiful red car with a Pontiac 400 H.O. It’s a four-speed, four on the floor. It’s just a great vehicle to drive. “We’ll draw the first ticket out right around six p.m. Saturday and you must be present to win.” The giveaway car is a yearlong project. Proceeds from the show go toward the next year’s show and other club activities. Show admission is $8 each for anyone age 18 and over and $1 for ages 5-17. An admittance ticket provides one chance at the giveaway car. A ticket is good for all three days of the show. Yashko said the concert by the group America will be a featured event of the first day (Thursday, July 1) and includes a special appearance by the voice of Ambrosia, David Pack. The Poker Run to Bear Lake (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) is also featured Thursday. Saturday the awards ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Rodeo Arena followed by the drawing for the giveaway at 6 p.m.
