When the owner of the Best Stop in Franklin, Idaho sold out to Maverik a couple of months ago, Jade Porter was skeptical. Porter has lived in Franklin most of his life and was working at Best Stop when he learned of the change. He wasn’t sure at first if he would stay.
“I decided I was going to stick it out and see what they could offer,” according to Porter. He accepted a position as the Store Director of the newest and Maverik’s first store in Franklin County. “I couldn’t be more impressed. They’ve treated me just amazingly well.”
Based out of Salt Lake City, Maverik recently purchased all four Best Stops — three in Cache Valley and the one in Franklin. Crews have been working on the remodel of the Franklin location for the last six weeks. The store located at Highway 91 and Legacy Drive officially opened its doors November 29th. During the grand opening Thursday night, Porter was all smiles as members of the community came out to support him and get their first look inside.
“It’s been very nerve racking, but at the same time the turnout is crazy,” the new manager said.
Turnout was crazy. The place was packed with people who came to check out the newly-remodeled store. There were free samples from the BonFire Grill, special discounts, a chance to win prizes and the Preston High School Band made an appearance.
Danielle Mattiussi, Vice President of Operations with Maverik, said they are thrilled to finally be in Franklin County. She said there was a general excitement about Maverik coming into the community and they hope to live up to that excitement.
Eleven of the 16 former Best Stop employees decided to stay on with Maverik. Mattiussi said the employees are key to the store’s success.
“They are friendly. They enjoy what they do,” she explained. “I think it’s really our people who make it special and apply that finishing touch to what we do.”
And while the finishing touches are complete on the Franklin location. Crews continue working on three other Cache Valley remodels (one on 2500 North Main in Logan, one on the corner of 1400 North and 800 East, and one on the corner of 300 South Main – right across the street from another Maverik). They are all expected to be complete sometime in December.
