A new health care center that will provide a significant upgrade in health services for low income patients opens in early January in downtown Logan.
The new Midtown Community Health Center will move into the facility currently housing the volunteer Cache Valley Community Health Clinic where for 20 years primarily uninsured patients have been able to visit two nights a week.
The new facility will serve the same patients, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the same location, 272 1/2 North Main.
“Midtown’s mission is to provide health care to people who don’t otherwise have access” said Lisa Nichols, Executive Director of Midtown Community Health Center. “These might be people who are low income, uninsured or maybe need services in a language other than English. We really try to serve that population and overcome all the barriers that they face.”
Nichols said Midtown will provide a full range of services, similar to those at a family practice office.
“That includes comprehensive primary care treatment for acute chronic illnesses, well care, plus pre-natal care and behavioral health therapy and treatment.”
Initially the staff will include a full time physician’s assistant and a licensed clinical social worker along with necessary support staff.
The new facility will be one of eight Midtown sites throughout Utah.
“This new site will be funded partially through contributions from Intermountain Health Care and also through revenue generated from patient care.”
Nichols said the clinic’s same-day accessibility will be a mix of walk-in services and appointments to meet different healthcare needs since people can’t plan when they’re going to be ill.
A Logan Regional Hospital spokesman said the hospital supports this change because it makes more comprehensive health care accessible to Cache Valley’s lower income and uninsured community.
The new clinic’s phone number is 435-752-7060, the same one used by the current health center which will close its doors Dec. 10.
CORRECTION: This article previously stated the Cache Valley Community Health Center would be changing over to Midtown Health Center when in fact it will be the Cache Valley Community Health Clinic that will be undergoing the change. The Cache Valley Community Health Center is not associated with Logan Regional Hospital or Intermountain Healthcare.
