Bear River outlasts Sky View in triple overtime

What a way to start the season opener! Bear River and Sky View fought tooth and nail, and it took seven quarters to do it as the Bears came away with a 67-61 win in 3 overtimes.

Landon Cornwall was the leader for the Bears scoring 34 but when at the line with eight seconds left in regulation Cornwall missed the second of a one-and-one leaving the Bears up by three.

Sky View took the ball quickly down court and drilled a 25 footer at the buzzer to send it into extra time. First year coach for Bear River, Casey Hunt, challenged his team when they came to the bench after the stunning shot.

“I told them, ‘lets see what you are made of,'” Hunt said. “‘Lets see what you guys really got.’ They responded very well and came through for us.”

Hunt also complimented the Bears’ crowd who traveled to Smithfield to see the exciting game and hopes to see even a bigger crowd next week when they return home for their season opener. Bear River now will look forward to hosting the Ogden Tigers next Tuesday night. Game coverage can be heard on 104.9 in Box Elder County and
