WILLARD – The state medical examiner has determined that a 26-year-old man whose body was found in the charred ruins of a Willard house fire died from smoke inhalation.

The Standard Examiner of Ogden reports that Willard Police Chief Nate Thompson says the autopsy report found 26-year-old Eric Lankford was alive when the fire started. He was identified from dental records.

Police believe the fire was intentionally set. Lankford’s older brother, 29-year-old Jeremy Lankford, is a person of interest in the police investigation. No arrests have been made.

The two shared the home and got into a fight hours before the blaze while they were drinking alcohol.

The medical examiner classifies the manner of death as undetermined.

Thompson says no arrests have been made.
