Everyone got in on the act for the Logan Royals in a 18-0 shellacking of the Hyrum Hornets on Wednesday.
“It was fun to come out and get the bats going,” said Logan’s Russ Madsen. “It was a good outing; Lots of hits.”
Madsen led the way for Logan, going 2-for-2 with three RBI’s in his first pair of at-bats. Madsen’s double in the first inning put the Royals up 3-0, and his triple in the third made in 8-0.
“I just wanted to simplify it,” Madsen said. “I’ve been making things hard. Just wanted to go up there and keep things simple. First two at-bats went well.”
Logan had 10 different players record hits, finishing with 14 total hits to go along with 10 walks.
Logan’s pitching staff combined to allow four hits and struck out nine.
The Royals improved to 8-3 overall, pulling within a half game of Providence at 8-2. Hyrum remained winless this season, falling to 0-9.
Logan travels to first-place Providence on Monday, while Hyrum hosts the Wolverines on Friday.
“We have a big week ahead next week, so we just have to keep the momentum,” Madsen said. “Stay aggressive at the plate and keep our pitchers healthy.”
Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
