Woman killed, children injured in Brigham City Main Street accident

BRIGHAM CITY (AP) – A 59-year-old woman is dead and her three young grandchildren are injured after being struck by a car that was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Brigham City.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the collision at an intersection Thursday afternoon caused one car to come up onto a sidewalk and hit the four, who were walking.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Brigham City police Lt. Mike Nelsen said Debra Mercer, 59, died in a hospital of her injuries shortly after the Thursday afternoon accident near the intersection of 700 South and Main Street in Brigham City.

Police Lt. Mike Nelsen says the grandmother was rushed to a hospital but she died. A 7-year-old girl, a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy had minor injuries.

The driver of the car that hit them, an 87-year-old woman, also sustained minor injuries.

The Brigham City attorney will determine if any citations will be issued.
