Week in review: Cache Valley Daily’s top stories

<a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/news/local/article_1f7956ac-7bfa-11e2-aef5-0019bb30f31a.html” target=”_blank”><strong>Al’s Sporting Goods moving to Bridgerland Square:</strong></a> Al’s Sporting Goods has purchased the 10 acre section of land on the block of 1000 North and Main Street where it will build a 130,000 square foot shopping center to be completed by June 2014. The Al’s building itself will occupy roughly 60,000 square feet and include an improved gun department with a gun range, and a much larger golf section.

<a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/news/local/article_8b46e702-7e87-11e2-988a-0019bb30f31a.html” target=”_blank”><strong>Father and Son killed on Valley View Highway:</strong></a> A North Logan father and son were killed in a head-on collision that happened on a snowy Valley View Highway on Saturday, Feb. 23. Terry K. Barnett and Nicholas C. Barnett were struck by Alfonzo E. Vasquez who lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line shortly after 6 p.m.

<a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/news/article_14eeb128-7beb-11e2-8fec-0019bb30f31a.html” target=”_blank”><strong>Bill allowing concealed gun without permit moves forward in Utah legislature:</strong></a> A bill has been approved that would eliminate the need for a permit to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Utah. The bill allows for anyone over 21, who hasn’t been convicted of a crime that that bars a person from illegally owning a firearm, to carry a concealed weapon. If passed, Utah would be the fourth state with such a law.

<a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/sports/article_fc6f31a8-7b23-11e2-aa85-0019bb30f31a.html” target=”_blank”><strong>USU loses another heartbreaker as BYU sinks last-second shot for 70-68 win:</strong></a> Despite a double-double from Spencer Butterfield, and strong performances from Jarred Shaw, Jordan Stone, and Marvin Jean, the USU men’s basketball team suffered a tough loss at in-state rival BYU on Feb. 19.

<a href=”http://www.cachevalleydaily.com/news/local/article_d1498656-7c6b-11e2-adcb-001a4bcf6878.html” target=”_blank”><strong>Neighbors prevent car fire from spreading:</strong></a> After Rachelle Laursen’s 2001 Ford Explorer caught on fire, she and her children quickly left their home which the vehicle was parked by. Neighbors quickly responded, however, and were able to put out the fire before it spread to the house or anything else. The cause of the fire is unknown.
