Trooper, witness rescue woman who rolled into ditch

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) – An Ogden woman is recovering after her car rolled down an embankment in Box Elder County and two passersby came to her rescue.

Witness Jason Navarro says he saw Heidi Orosco lose control of her car and roll into a ditch alongside Interstate 15 south of Brigham City on Monday. He says he saw her vehicle filling with water and flagged down a passing Utah Highway Patrol vehicle.

Off-duty trooper Alex Williams used Navarro’s knife to cut Orosco’s seat belt, while Navarro used a plastic bottle to bail out water around Orosco’s face.

The two men say Orosco was initially unconscious, but started breathing and talking by the time rescuers arrived.

Oroscos suffered a spinal cord injury and is recovering at Ogden Regional Medical Center.
