Governor to discuss low graduation rates for women

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The governor’s newly formed Women’s College Task Force is set to discuss low graduation rates and ways to raise the educational aspirations of young women in Utah.The first meeting is set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Utah State Capitol.The task force was formed to address trends revealed in a 2009 Lumina Foundation report showing Utah is far below that national average, with just 36 percent of young adults receiving college certificates or degrees.Women’s graduation rates in Utah as of 2009 are 6 percent lower than their male counterparts at just 25.4 percent. They are two percent lower than the national average.The task force is a subcommittee of the Governor’s Education Excellence Commission
