Bear sightings in Mantua

If you have plans to be out and about near Mantua this summer, the warning is to be bear aware. Mantua Chief of Police Jim Jones says there have been bear sightings around the small town for several weeks now, as recent as just a few days ago.”Two weeks ago a bear was trapped near Mantua,” Jones says. Since then, another bear has been sighted, even in the middle of town. Jones says he has only had a handful of bear sightings during his long career with Manuta.”Those who frequent the lake, trails or the outdoors need to be bear aware,” Jones warns. Jones says the Department of Wildlife Resources trapped the bear a few weeks ago and more traps will be brought in to the area because of this most recent sighting. The reports are that it is a black bear roaming the streets. If anyone sees a bear they are encouraged to contact local law enforcement who will in turn contact the DWR.
