Sixty-eight campers, including a group of scouts, were evacuated early Friday morning due to the road to High Creek Canyon being washed out. Cache County Sheriff Lt. Chad Jensen says deputies responded to the area at about 1:30 a.m. and found the road a half mile east of the first gate, washing away from the high water flows. Jensen says county Search and Rescue were called out to assist with notifying and transporting the campers with ATV’s across the area where the road washed out. He says the campers weren’t in danger but were evacuated in case the roadway got so damaged crews wouldn’t be able to get ATV’s across to bring them out. The Cache County Road Department is working on the road so campers who left their vehicles and property behind will be able to get them out. High Creek Canyon is north and east of Richmond.
