Autographed Beach Boys boogie board to be auctioned off for cancer

With the Beach Boys coming to Logan Thursday June 30, David Denton, morning announcer on KOOL 103.9 along with Relay for Life’s Team Carrie will be auctioning off a specially-designed boogie board signed by the iconic group. The goal is to raise $500-$1000 and Denton said this creatively decorated board is something the winner will be able to cherish for a long time.Team Carrie holds a special place in Denton’s heart. The group is named after Carrie Jones, a daughter of his close friends, who died a few years ago from cancer. The mother, Patty Jones, has been recently diagnosed with cancer as well and Denton is hoping members of the community will come out and support those effected by the disease.”Patty Jones is a wonderful wonderful lady and she is handling the situation with such grace and dignity,” Denton said. “I am just glad I can help and I am hoping listeners will make donations.”The concert begins at 8 p.m. and the Beach Boy’s Boogie Board will be on display that night and throughout the cruise-in. Bidding will continue until Saturday night when the winner will be announced. The bid will start at $200 but Denton said if someone just wants to jump in and make a big bid then do it.”Someone is going to get something that is really one of a kind. Remember it goes to cancer society and is tax deductible. People can bid all weekend and donate,” he said.Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, original members of the band, will be there and Denton said they have expressed their attachment to Utah and have played here since early on in their career. Band mate Carl Wilson died from cancer in 1998 so they were happy to help support the cause by signing the board, Denton said.
