Mustangs fall to East in 4A baseball tournament thriller

The East Leopards have been on a roll with their hitting lately and it continued Wednesday afternoon vs the Mountain Crest Mustangs. East third baseman drilled a no doubter walk off homer over left center in the bottom of the 7th to win a thriller over the Mustangs 8-6 in the 4A State tournament.Mountain Crest took an early two run lead in the 2nd inning, playing small ball. Rhett Parkinson, who had pitched spectacular throughout the season, has continued great pitching through the tournament and did so again this afternoon. He struck out 16, walking only three. The biggest momentum changer came in the 5th. The Mustangs were clinging to a one run lead and looking for more with runners on 2nd and 3rd base and the top of the order up to bat with no outs. But nothing came of it as the East Leopards pitcher got a strikeout and the next two to fly out to get out of the jam.East got to Rhett in the 5th and tied the game at six. In the top of the 7th, MC had two on and two out but Andrew Andersen flew out to centerfield to end another Mustang threat setting up East’s heroics. Rhett got the first two outs, but then came the bomb from the third basemen to send MC to the losers bracket. MC will play against their region rival, the Bonneville Lakers tonight in an elimination game. MC is 3-0 vs Bonneville on the season and Kye Raymond will be on the mound for MC tonight.
