Fireworks safety critical, fire marshal says

It seems one can’t have Independence Day celebrations without fireworks. Fireworks are fun, but new Logan Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys says they can also be dangerous and there were more than 7,000 injuries from fireworks in 2008, most of them involving children. Humphreys says setting off fireworks is only legal three days before and three days after July 4, and then three days before and after July 24. He said you should only buy fireworks that are legal in the state of Utah and children using fireworks should have adult supervision. Also, Humphreys said, fireworks should be lit on the ground and used as they’re designed, and should never be set off while held in someone’s hands. Most fireworks injuries, he said, involve the face, eyes and hand.
