America coming to Cache Valley

America is coming to Logan. The Cache Valley Cruise-In Association has announced that the 70s band America will perform at this year’s Cruise-In at 8 p.m. July 1 at the Cache County Fairgrounds. This is the 40th anniversary of the group, which started in England as friends who met while in high school while their fathers were stationed at a military base in London.America had hits like Sister Golden Hair, A Horse With No Name, Daisy Jane, I Need You, Ventura Highway and You Can Do Magic. Three America albums reached Platinum status, and their album “History” reached Platinum four times.Lead singer for Ambrosia, David Pack, will be the opening act before America performs. Ambrosia hit the charts with songs like The Biggest Part of Me, Holding on to Yesterday and How Much I Feel. The Cruise-In Association also recently announced their plans for this year’s giveaway car. Following 2009’s giveaway there was not an official announcement for the 2010 car. Cruise-In Event Director Greg Yashko says the association started asking questions and surveyed people. “We asked people what they’d like to see,” Yashko says. “The overwhelming response, we were just a little surprised, was for a muscle car.”After conducting the survey and exploring their options, the association settled on the car they wanted to giveaway. “This one is a 1967 (Pontiac) GTO convertible,” Yashko explains. “Yes, it’s a real GTO. It’s not a clone.”Yashko says the red muscle car has a lot of features that make muscle cars special. “It’s got a ’67, 400 cubic inch high performance, an HO motor; 360 horse is the original. We’ll have warmed it up a little bit more by the time we give it away. It’s backed up by a close-ratio four speed and the rear end is a 4:11 posi. And it really scoots.”The giveaway car will be on display at this year’s Autorama, at car shows and area sponsors before the Cruise-In.Tickets for the concert officially go on sale Friday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at SmithTix and Macey’s in Providence. The Cache Valley Cruise-In Association has also announced a special pre-sale that will be held beginning Wednesday, March 3 from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. on March 4.
