Some area hospitals score well, others don’t

Rankings of Utah hospitals based on patient satisfaction ratings can now be viewed online. The rankings from the 2009 Hospital Consumer Satisfaction Report can be viewed at <a href=”http://health.utah.gov/myhealthcare/reports/hcahps/index.php”>health.utah.gov</a> .The findings show that about 73% of respondents would recommend their hospital to family and friends, but some measures showed discrepancies of up to 50% among the 34 Utah hospitals included in the survey.Results for area hospitals were varied, with Cache Valley Specialty Hospital receiving the highest ratings. On how well patients rated the hospital overall, Cache Valley Specialty hospital received a 79% rating. Bear River Valley received a 76%, Logan Regional a 66%, and Brigham City Community Hospital received a 57% overall rating. On how whether or not patients would recommend the hospital to their friends and family, again Cache Valley Specialty Hospital leads area hospitals with an 82% recommendation rating. Logan Regional received a 79%, Bear River Valley received a 74%, and Brigham City Community Hospital again came in low with a 54% rating.The survey used to compile the data on the website included 27 questions patients were asked about their hospital visit, on topics such as nurse and doctor communication, responsiveness of hospital staff and cleanliness of the room.
